Questions and Answers

Question:
Can I also control my camera with ZAP-SHOT? I don't have a Canon Digital Rebel.

Answer:
ZAP-SHOT is tested with the Canon EOS 300D/350D/400D/450D/500D/550D / Digital Rebel/XT/XTi/XSi/T1i/T2i. However, ZAP-SHOT basically replaces the cable remote switch. That means, if your Canon EOS camera allows the use of e.g. the remote switch RS60-E3 (like various models of the Canon Elan, Rebel and EOS Series do), it should work.
ZAP-SHOT might also work with other cameras with a cable remote switch input. If you know about the plug pin-out of your camera, you can build a simple adapter that goes in between ZAP-SHOT and your camera.
For the Canon pro / prosumer cameras (Canon 50D, 40D, 30D, 20D, 10D, 7D, 5D, 5D Mark II, D60, D30, Canon 1D, 1Ds, 1D Mark II, 1Ds Mark II, 1D Mark II N, 1D Mark III, 1Ds Mark III, 1D Mark IV) are ready made adapters available.

Please read the compatibility page for more details.

Please understand that we cannot test all different cameras. Therefore we don’t offer any support or warranty.

Question:
How much range can I expect with ZAP-SHOT?

Answer:
The range depends very much on the environment it is used in. Other transmitter (e.g. pagers, garage door openers, …) will influence the range. Also other obstacles, e.g. bushes or trees, can lower the range.

Question:
Can I replace the batteries by myself?

Answer:
Yes, both units, the key fob transmitter and the receiver, incorporate common low-cost, easy to get battery types and can be opened without tools. ZAP-SHOT comes with a documentation that shows how to replace the batteries.

Question:
Can I control one ZAP-SHOT receiver with multiple remote control key fobs -or- vice versa, multiple ZAP-SHOT receivers with one remote control key fob?

Answer:
ZAP-SHOT allows the user to select the address for the transmitter and the receiver. Therefore you can either set up unique TX-RX pairs or control multiple receiver (cameras) synchronously with one transmitter, or, control one receiver (camera) with multiple transmitters from different locations.

Question:
What, if my ZAP-SHOT interfere with another RF application on the same frequency (e.g. garage door opener, wireless thermometer)?

Answer:
If it’s just a matter of the address selection (e.g. your neighbor also uses a ZAP-SHOT), just move to a different address pair. If there’s a stronger transmitter than the ZAP-SHOT key fob transmitter, you won’t be able to use ZAP-SHOT (at least at that specific spot).
